As part of a high performing Finance function, partner with divisional and executive leaders to drive financial performance for some of Australia's most desirable retail brands.
As the Commercial Finance Manager, you will have responsibility for driving the commercial outcomes for a collection of our merchandise functions within David Jones. You will partner directly with functional GMs and their direct reports to set, manage and evolve commercial objectives in line with category and business wide objectives. Leading a small team your role will include providing commercial insight across functional/category performance while also having a view on external market trends and considerations. With an ambitious and transformational agenda currently under way across the business, you will be crucial in ensuring all functions meet the desired outcomes in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Based in Melbourne with a hybrid mix of time in the office and from home, this role will suit an experienced commercial finance leader who thrives in a high paced and constantly evolving environment.

Job description

What does the role involve?

  • Partner with key Merchandise leaders to drive improved financial performance in all categories across all channels - Retail stores and Digital trade
  • Partner with buying and planning teams to drive meaningful revenue management outcomes
  • P&L management including reporting, analysis and commentary against forecast/budget

  • Lead finance inputs for all strategic projects and brand partnerships across all categories
  • Financial analysis of proposed channel initiatives, including modelling and sensitivity analysis
  • Support the functional leads with the formulation of medium-term strategy planning

  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve business performance


Who are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in a similar senior commercial finance leadership/business partner role

  • CA/CPA Qualified

  • Capability to drive business improvement and ROI to deliver commercial outcomes

  • Experience with financial systems, preferably Oracle Financials and EPM or equivalent reporting/forecasting tool

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial data in ways that are effective and readily understood

  • Proven interpersonal, influence and relationship management skills

  • Someone who is energised working in highly transformative environments

  • Proven commercial acumen with experience in the retail/consumer industry highly desirable
