The role
In its 185th year, David Jones is in the midst of a dynamic organisational transformation as part of its new Australian ownership structure. With an overarching focus to deliver our Vision 2025+ agenda, this rare opportunity to join a high performing and valued facilities management team will make meaningful impact at an exciting time for David Jones.
Reporting to the Head of Facilities, you will be responsible for providing Mechanical/HVAC and general building services expertise and project leadership to current store and support centre network. With an ambitious objective to reduce our overall carbon footprint over the next three years, you will play a crucial role in identifying relevant opportunities with our suppliers to enhance our controls approach across existing and new infrastructure. Continually identify opportunities for improvement at a store, functional and project stakeholder level you will work closely with a number of suppliers both on and offsite.
Based in Melbourne with a hybrid mix of time in the office, our stores and from home, this role will be perfect for a highly technical mechanical/HVAC professional looking to make an impact within a dynamic and fast paced organisation.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to;
- Manage contracted vendors in the Facilities Management Department
- Lead, deliver and manage the Mechanical services plant and equipment offering
- Provide a high-quality mechanical engineering solution for a wide range of Building Services
- Ownership and enhancement on mechanical systems and automation of current BMS platform
- Ensure regulatory compliance for buildings, plant and equipment
- Develop, oversee and manage projects and initiatives
- Manage CAPEX budgeting process as appropriate for new services or expenditure
- Liaise with contractors and key internal leaders to coordinate repair work, safety inspections and supply of equipment
- A higher education qualification or equivalent technical experience in HVAC / Mechanical engineering
- Dedicated experiencing working in engineering, building services and consulting relationships
- Industry knowledge in HVAC control systems and technology
- Knowledge of electrical, fire systems, mechanical (HVAC), hydraulic, generator, BMS and other computer-based building services systems
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- A curious mindset, ability to challenge the status quo with a solution orientated mindset
- The ability to manage complex, time-dependent projects
- Exposure to retail or multi-site environments would be highly advantageous
